WORSHIP MINISTRY RESIDENCY

Job Overview

The Horizon Worship Residency is an 11-month program where those who are called to vocational ministry can get experience as a member of a church staff.

Job Description

The Horizon Worship Residency Program is designed to give worship leaders an opportunity to gain invaluable wisdom, skills, character, and experience that are essential for vocational ministry. Horizon Church is located in Tampa, Florida.

Many people believe they are called into full-time vocational ministry without knowing what that entails. As a part of the Horizon residency, you will be given the experience, training, coaching, and one on one development that will help you discern and prepare for your ministry calling. You will be partnered with a pastor or ministry leader with the intent of you gaining wisdom and insights from them. Your coach will also provide you with opportunities to grow in your gifts, as well as some key ministry essentials like leadership development, recruiting and building teams, communication, pastoral care, and others.

Worship at Horizon:  Horizon Worship seeks to extend an invitation to each person who walks through the doors of Horizon into a genuine encounter with our God and King. We do this each week by modeling what it means to be enthusiastic worshippers who draw those around them to discover the goodness of God through their passionate and authentic expressions of worship. Worship residents will be immersed in this culture and invited into carrying out that mission each week as we lead our church family in worship.

As a member of the worship staff at Horizon Christian Church, residents will be required to participate in weekend worship, special events, and staff meetings. Worship residents will audition for the team via video submission as any member of our new team members must in order to ensure your talents and skills are in line with the standards of our church and team. As a worship resident, you will be challenged to go beyond being a leader of songs and step into leadership of people.

Training: You will be given one on one coaching and development that has been created specifically for you as a worship resident. You will also have the opportunity to learn from other leaders and pastors in your field of study. In addition, you will get to attend at least one conference or retreat to further your development as a leader. One of the greatest ways to be trained is to be given chances to implement what you are learning. You will receive opportunities to lead at significant levels within the church. You will have chances to succeed or fail, all while growing and developing your character and leadership.

In addition, each resident learns leadership skills through weekly leadership training with other residents which focuses on faith, theology, personality types, and the ability to lead others in a variety of circumstances.

Length of Program: We believe one of the best ways to prepare someone for vocational ministry is through an extended experience on staff with a church. As a part of your residency, you will spend 11 months with our team learning, growing, and developing into the leader God has created you to be. Residents may start at any point in the calendar year and do not need to wait for a new semester.

Weekly Schedule: 10+ hours. This includes Sunday Services, weekly rehearsals, weekly leadership training, and staff meetings.

Compensation: Residents will be considered Part-Time employees of Horizon Church and will be given a generous package of $1,000 to offset living expenses. This compensation will not be enough to cover all expenses, so each ministry resident needs to have other plans to cover their expenses.

Housing: South Tampa is an expensive area to live in. Should a resident need assistance with locating housing, Horizon is willing to reach out to its members in an effort to locate a host home for residents.

Why you should consider being a part of the Horizon Residency:

  • Gain practical hands-on experience working with a dynamic church staff team.

  • Receive coaching and mentoring in ministry, spiritual development, and leadership.

  • Gain experience leading worship and others while receiving feedback from leaders and peers to help you grow as a leader.

Learn about being part of a portable church that goes above and beyond to create an engaging Sunday service without letting our lack of a building be a barrier to creativity and technical excellence.
