CHURCH PLANTER RESIDENCY

Job Overview

The Horizon Church Planter Residency is an 11-month program where those who are called to vocational ministry can get experience as a member of a church staff.

Job Description

The Horizon Residency Program is designed to give leaders an opportunity to gain invaluable wisdom, skills, character, and experience that is essential for full-time vocational ministry. In this residency, you will be given the experience, training, coaching, and one on one development that will prepare you to plant a church. You will be in a church that was started 4 years ago by the lead pastors. You will gain insights and wisdom that come from first-hand knowledge. You will also have access to many of the original plant team and learn from their experience.

As a member of the pastoral staff at Horizon Christian Church, residents will be required to participate in weekend worship, special events, and staff meetings.

Training: As a part of your residency, you will be exposed to some of the best church planting trainers and coaches in our nation. You will be taken through a strategic training curriculum that was developed specifically for church planters. You will also take part in interviews with church planters and church planting pastors to learn from their experience and wisdom. You will also take part in at least one church planting conference with other church planters, church planting organizations, and potential church planting partners.

You will be given one on one coaching and development that has been created specifically for you as a church planter resident. One of the greatest ways to be trained is to be given chances to implement what you are learning. You will receive opportunities to lead at significant levels within the church. You will have chances to succeed or fail, all while growing and developing your character and leadership.

In addition, each resident learns leadership skills through weekly leadership training with other residents which focuses on faith, theology, personality types, and the ability to lead others in a variety of circumstances.

Length of Program: We believe one of the best ways to prepare someone for vocational ministry is through an extended experience on staff with a church. As a part of your residency, you will spend 11 months with our team learning, growing, and developing into the leader God has created you to be. Residents may start at any point in the calendar year and do not need to wait for a new semester.

Weekly Schedule: 10+ hours. This includes Sunday Services, discipleship groups, weekly leadership training, and staff meetings.

Compensation: Residents will be considered Part-Time employees of Horizon Church and will be given a generous package of $1,000 to offset living expenses. This compensation will not be enough to cover all expenses, so each ministry resident needs to have other plans to cover their expenses.

Housing: South Tampa is an expensive area to live in. Should a resident need assistance with locating housing, Horizon is willing to reach out to its members in an effort to locate a host home for residents.

Why you should consider being a part of the Horizon Residency:

  • Gain practical hands-on experience working with a dynamic church staff team.

  • Receive coaching and mentoring in ministry, spiritual development, and leadership.

  • Gain experience leading a recent church plant while receiving feedback from leaders and peers to help you grow as a leader.
